Chester
Hi there...
I'm a ginger and white kitten from Cheshire, England, and my name's Chester.
You'll have to excuse any mistakes in my typing because I'm only eight
weeks old and this is my first try at writing. I'm writing on behalf of
my human, who brought me here a week ago. When I first arrived, there
was a definite smell of another cat round the house so, for several days,
I hunted through the house trying to find it.
It was only yesterday that my human told me all about the other
cat when I found her crying one night.
He was a big black cat called Koshka (my human tells me that's
Russian for 'cat') and he was only five years old when some cruel,
nasty human shot him in the lung. This gave him what my human
called an 'infection' and, although he fought hard to live, he
eventually died three weeks before I arrived My human, who is
called Eleanor, was very upset because she had looked after Koshka
from when he was a kitten, only a few weeks older than me. Some
cats might find it hard to believe that a human could treat a
cat like that but I know how cruel some humans can be. You see,
Eleanor rescued me from a dirty, cold shed where I lived on my
own. I was only six-and-a-half weeks old when she saved me but
I had been taken away from my mum more than a week before.
I had lots of fleas and worms and was very, very thin. The vet
said it would be a struggle to keep me alive but my human managed
it and now I'm putting on lots of weight. There are times when
my human says she regrets saving me because I like to put my claws
in things - including her! - but I know she doesn't mean it.
It's strange that there are so many different kinds of human in
the world. Some are like my first human and the one who killed
Koshka but others are so kind and loving and almost intelligent
enough to be cats. Before I go, I've got a quick question - why
do you all seem to dislike vets? When I went to see mine, he just
stroked me for a bit and then sprayed me with something he called
a 'flea spray'. It was quite nice, even if it did smell funny.
He said that when I go again, in a few days time, I'll have something
called an 'injection'. I don't know what it is but it sounds fun!

Hi Chester
Well it sounds like you've got a good start in life! The first thing any
kitten must do is find a decent human and you seem to have come up trumps
with yours. We suggest you teat her very kindly and gently for a while.
She'll need a lot of love and attention from you to help her get over
Koshka. Humans have very little self control when it comes to their emotions
(unlike our good selves of course!) it's what comes of being from an inferior
family like the primates, instead of from good feline stock. With care
and attention you can help her to adjust and you'll find that she is a
wonderful addition to your life.
It is very sad that not all humans are like yours. But this is the first
hurdle in a young cats life, how to tell the good from the bad. Rogue
humans are sadly far to numerous for comfort. But you've got yourself
a good one so congratulations Chester.
As for vets, well, perhaps next week you might start to appreciate our
misgivings. Don't get me wrong, vets are the better type of human and
they mean well, but there are issues of dignity involved here!
Many purrss and good luck with your injection,
Sass
and the rest of the gang.
